Comics Contribute to Poor Teacher Image

Comics (and movies) usually depict teachers sitting complacently behind their desk while their students work. As a teacher, I almost never had a chance to sit down—let alone at my desk—when my students were in the classroom.

Depictions like the ones below are a big reason why people don’t seem to understand just how taxing a teacher’s job really is.

School Comic - Calvin and Hobbs

'A grade of 85 or higher will get you a favorable mention in my blog.'

School Comic - Grades

'After you grade my report, may I have my intellectual property back?'

"If you give me a good grade in summer school I'll give you a good grade on rating my school teachers."
