Praxis II: 5015 — My Experience
So I just got done taking the Praxis II: 5015 (Elementary Education: Instructional Practice and Applications) and wanted to share with all of you my experience. Check out the two posts below:
Praxis II: 5015 — Done!
Praxis II: 5015 — Study Guide
UPDATE: I scored a 192/200. Yay!
hi! i just wanted to say thanks for putting up the study guide! i found it very helpful 🙂
i have a question about the praxis, though.
are the questions about science, math, and social studies about the content? for example, on the ets study guide, there is a lot of contextual information about each of these three subjects. do i need to know, for example, the government’s role in economics? (question from the guide)
also, congratulations on your score! 🙂
i hope i do that well, too!!
Thanks, I hope you do, too!
If you’re taking the 5015, the answer is no, not really. The 5015 is primarily about teaching practices, not actual content. As long as you know general terms (e.g. what a hypothesis is) you’ll be able to answer the questions. (For instance, if a student were doing an experiment and their results didn’t align with their expectations, you might be asked, “What would you suggest they do?” Possible answers could include “redo the experiment,” “modify their hypothesis,” etc.)
Can you tell us about the other sections. What is important to know under science, math, and social studies please.
I take the Praxis 5015 October 15th. I am feeling pretty good about the multiple choice but the constructive responses I am worried about. I do have the ETS study guide, but I want to know if there is anything else out there that I can use to help study for the essays? If there isn’t do you have any advice as how I can better prepare myself for the essays? Congrats on you score 🙂
I don’t remember finding any materials other than the ETS Study Guide that really helped me prepare for the constructed response. What I mostly did to practice was to look at the ETS study guide and modify their scenarios slightly (e.g. if they give a math example, I would think about how it could apply for reading or science) and try to come up with responses that were similar to their 3-point answers. This usually involved designing games in my head, etc., that could promote a concept. Let me know if you have more questions. Good luck on the 15th!
